The Jamal Chroma series is a playful take on the camel hide form — repeated, mirrored, and overlapped until new patterns emerge. In this process, the familiar becomes abstract, giving rise to compositions that bridge heritage and contemporary expression.

Rich hues of indigo and crimson blend with the natural tones of Afghan Ghazni wool, whose distinctive elasticity the artisans liken to “chewing gum”, while in some pieces hand-crafted tassels heighten the tactile quality.

The series includes limited-edition runners commissioned for Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi and Jamal / RB+G, the artwork exhibited at the inaugural Kyoto YouMe Triennale in Japan.

Collaboration with local artisans to leverage their knowledge and skill was core to the project. Every step of the process, form shearing of wool to spinning, tinting, weaving, and carving took experienced artisans several days.

But the process is never complete. Continuous grooming with a rigid brush enhances the carpet with a patina of care and love.
